When he's mean does that mean he likes you?

I really like this guy but there's somthing about him. he goes to my school. We talk alot in art but not very much at lunch. I'm best friends wih his best friend too! I guess it makes it easier for me? He's notthee type of guy that really texts, facebook or chat on msn. So that's difficult for me. In art he can be really cute and I guess u can say we flirt. He's mean to me in a way though. I don't get it he's always making fun of me when it's just me. But other days he will be so niceee and sweet I don't know what to do !!! Please help!! :(
